Home Visiting

Home Visiting COVID-19 Updates: Based on the heightened level of precaution for our families, our communities and our staff, New Mexico Home Visiting Program is now encouraging “telehealth” – remote home visiting approach to all Home Visits during this Public Health Emergency Period. While it is crucial to continue the support for all the families we serve, we want to make sure we can take measures to limit any risk of spreading COVID-19. What is home visiting?

Raising a child is hard and life can be busy, so parenting coaches can come to you. The home visiting program helps connect families to helpers that make life a little easier. A home visitor can offer advice of all kinds, whether that's breastfeeding tips, how to manage stress, or even getting clothes for back-to-school. Your home visitor can also help you navigate and apply for other resources like Child Care Assistance.

Who is eligible for home visiting?

Home visiting programs are available to expectant parents and families with children birth to three years of age. You don't need to be a US citizen. Nurse-Family Partnership programs do have eligibility requirements—contact them directly to find out if you qualify.

How much does home visiting cost?

Home visiting programs are completely free.

What are the advantages of home visiting?

From day one, the little things you do can make a big difference in your baby’s life. New Mexico Home Visiting program standards are linked to five long-term benefits:

  • Babies are born healthy.
  • Children are nurtured by their parents and caregivers.
  • Children are physically and mentally healthy and ready for school.
  • Children and families are safe.
  • Families are connected to formal and informal supports in their community.
